We are a gothic / experimental / doom group based in the West of England. We reinterpret historical material, taking musical forms and melodies that are hundreds of years old and shaping them into varied contemporary works with an archaic ceremonial feel.
Our music incorporates improvisation and 'found sounds', with vocals spanning medieval English, Latin, and Welsh. We use post-industrial and avant-classical approaches to rework sacred and secular works - chiefly chant and dance tunes - to deliver captivating, atmospheric and emotionally resonant performances. We invite audiences to experience a transportive journey or arc, with one piece blending into another. A distinctive feature of a Dead Space Chamber Music show is the striking use of dynamics - we go from an ethereal pindrop to dramatic heavy doom, fully utilising the unique acoustics of the historic spaces, churches and crypts, we often perform in.
We have shared UK stages with Jo Quail, Darkher, Aaron Stainthorpe (High Parasite / My Dying Bride),
Rose McDowell, Hackedepicciotto (Alexander Hacke - Einsturzende Neubauten- & Danielle De Picciotto),
The Danse Society, members of thisquietarmy and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Personnel: Tom Bush (guitar / samples), Liz Muir (cello), Katya Samarkina (drums / percussion), Ellen Southern (voice / percussion / psaltery / found sounds).

In 2017 we founded the award winning event series Dark Alchemy, which we now co-host with modular synth artist T.G. Edwards. The ethos of the series is to host and collaborate with other genre-defying artists to create unique and immersive live events in historic sacred spaces and independent venues.
In recent years this has expanded into online videostreams and we will soon be launching Dark Alchemy as a label for releasing our own music and new creative collaborations.

"The name Dead Space Chamber Music is a concise summation of the intent and meaning behind this band. Whilst the term 'dead space' immediately invokes a feeling of remoteness, it could just as easily refer to areas and structures just off the beaten track, near areas of bustling activity but long discarded by the march of history.
Forgotten ruins, underground vaults, or patches of woodland, areas pregnant with eerie acoustics, decaying architecture, and the fading memory of the purpose and significance bestowed upon them by long dead ancestors.
There is an undeniable cross appeal to this music, one that goes deeper than others attributed with the potential for a broad audience pull. Both in terms of genre with its references to folk, industrial, goth, metal, ambient, neoclassical, and industrial to name a few. But also in terms of its ability to lift us out of our hyper connected present and place us in a space that takes memory seriously." - HATE MEDITATIONS
